This idea is often based on their ear tufts, large size, and fluffy tail.<\/p><p data-start=\"863\" data-end=\"978\">However, from a genetic point of view, this is impossible. During the French Revolution, Queen Marie Antoinette allegedly attempted to escape and sent her belongings \u2014 including her beloved long-haired cats \u2014 to America.<\/p><p data-start=\"1245\" data-end=\"1408\">Although the escape never happened, the cats are said to have arrived in North America, where they may have contributed to the development of the Maine Coon breed.<\/p><hr data-start=\"1410\" data-end=\"1413\" \/><h3 data-section-id=\"1y2os4m\" data-start=\"1415\" data-end=\"1451\">Legend Three: The Captain \u201cCoon\u201d<\/h3><p data-start=\"1453\" data-end=\"1613\">There is also a story about a sea captain nicknamed \u201cCoon,\u201d who loved cats and always traveled with many long-haired companions \u2014 Persians, Angoras, and others.<\/p><p data-start=\"1615\" data-end=\"1804\">During his voyages, kittens were born and left in different ports, including along the American coast.
